Key Dates

Stage 1: written applications due to PWS by Friday, January 21st, 2011.

Stage 2: students selected for auditions Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 Stage 3: auditions held at Brendle Recital Hall, Saturday, January 29th, 2011.

Stage 4: rehearsals, the winner will be required to attend Monday night rehearsals with the PWS 4 weeks prior to the March concert.

The 2011 Competition is open to high school music students, grades 10-12, who live in Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin counties.

Students must complete an Application Form and submit a Letter Of Recommendation from a teacher. (Grade point average in school will be considered.)

The categories of the competition for 2010-11 will be brass, woodwind and melodic percussion.

Guidelines

Principal players in the Piedmont Wind Symphony will review the applications and select those who are eligible to audition.

Those selected for auditions must prepare a pre-selected, required piece for their particular instruments from those listed under Required Musical Selections. Students will audition without any accompaniment.

The auditions will include playing scales from the All-State Band list of scales and performing a section from the required piece they have prepared. The judges will provide critiques of the participants’ playing to help them with their future studies.
