The Piedmont Wind Symphony (PWS) is an adult wind ensemble serving the
Piedmont Triad area. The PWS was founded under the direction of Robert Simon in
1990 with seed money from the Arts Council of Winston-Salem. It is a registered,
non-profit organization whose goal is to further adult music education and
provide performance opportunities for post college age musicians and to enhance,
enrich and expand the musical experience available to adults in the Triad area.
The PWS also offers a few positions to talented high school students who plan a
career in music. In some cases, a student may be seated by their band director
or private teacher who perform in the ensemble. The PWS is made up of
professional, amateur and student musicians from all areas of the Piedmont. In
residence at Wake Forest University, the PWS performs frequently, has many
performances broadcast on Public Radio, has performed three times for the North
Carolina Music Educators Convention and has released six CD's. |
